What Is Nurse Delegation?
Washington State law allows a registered nurse to delegate certain nursing tasks to a certified Home Care Aide or Nursing Assistant for a specific client. The nurse assesses your loved one, decides which tasks are safe to delegate, teaches the caregiver step by step, and checks in regularly. This means your loved one can get help with routine health tasks from a trusted caregiver at home, often avoiding a move to a facility.
Tasks Our Caregivers Can Help With Under Nurse Delegation

Medication Administration
Giving oral, topical, inhaled, eye and ear medications exactly as the nurse instructs, not just reminders.

Insulin Injections
Diabetes support including insulin injections, with extra RN supervision as required by state rules.

Blood Glucose Monitoring
Regular blood sugar checks, recorded and shared with the nurse and your family.

Simple Wound Care and Dressings
Basic dressing changes and skin checks as directed by the nurse.

Ostomy and Catheter Care
Routine care for established ostomies and catheters, done with comfort and privacy.

Tube Feedings and Other Delegated Tasks
Feedings through an established tube and other routine tasks the nurse approves after assessment.
Every delegated task is approved by our registered nurse after an assessment, and depends on your loved one's condition and Washington State rules.
